Python for Acoustics and Audio Signal Processing

Content: This seminar deals with programming tools for acoustic research and development in Python. The goal of the course is to implement important parts of the ITA-Toolbox and AKtools Matlab-Toolboxes and publish the course work in an open repository to make the results available to the community.

The seminar starts with an introduction of existing code and possible seminar works in the first week. In the second week, we will present a framework for developing under Python covering Integrated Development Environments (IDE), managing Python packages in virtual environments, managing source code using the Git workflow, automated unit testing, and Python packaging.

After the introduction, groups of 1 to 3 students will start implement their algorithms, which will be presented during the last weeks of the semester.

This is a joint seminar between TU Berlin and the Institute for Technical Acoustics of RWTH Aachen University. It can be held in English, if requested, and will be held in German otherwise.

 

Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge of discrete signal  processing
  • Basic skills in the mathematics and physics of acoustic
  • Basic Python skills are helpful but not required

Das Seminar ist auf ca. 15 Studierende begrenzt (je nach Zusammensetzung der Gruppen). Sollte das Interesse zu groß sein, werden AKT-Studierende bevorzugt behandelt.
