Seminar in Live Electronics
Inhalt/Course description:
This music seminar is intended for students who are already engaged in some form of electronic music making. This can include the use of commercial applications (Reason, Ableton Live, etc.), patching environments (Max, PD), software (csound, SuperCollider, Chuck, Faust), or analog systems (turntables, mixers, contact microphones, analog synthesizers). Because it is a seminar, attendance is required. It is absolutely necessary that you attend every class to participate in discussion, critique and rehearsal.
The complexity of electronic music systems tends to separate artists and musicians into distinct media communities. The goal of this seminar is to explore the difference in sound and approach of these different systems and to develop compositional approaches that exist independent of these specific frameworks.
Coursework will take the form of four projects. Projects will be presented in class on the “long meetings”, which will run from 1:00PM until 4:00PM on November 8 and 29, January 3 and February 7.
