Voice Communication
Inhalt: The seminar will impart basic knowledge on human voice communication. Topics covered will include voice production, propagation, and perception (vocal folds and tract, formants, timbre and voice quality); retrieval and analysis of psychoacoustical information from speech and singing voice signals (source-filter model, cepstral analysis, Fourier analysis and phase vocoder); speech intelligibility (background noise, influence of room acoustics, Lombard effect). Evaluation will be based on active in-class participation and self-conducted theoretical or empirical projects presented in class. Basic knowledge of acoustics and audio signal processing is required. Upon completion of the seminar, participants will be able to understand the basic principles of voice communication and apply them to speech intelligibility and singing voice quality subjects.
