Sound and Materials
Inhalt: Sound in contemporary culture is so often bound up with audio. We hear audio sound throughout our daily life, from our alarm clock first thing in the morning, our mp3s on the way to work, through to our movie watching in the evening. These audio experiences are bound to technology and in the last decade in sound that is produced in post-production environments. In 2014 many sound makers are thinking about sound not as audio and not through the interface of post-production software and hardware. What does it mean to think about sound
as a material? The course will look at a history of sound as a material practice, drawing on my research in Cracked Media and my work with the research group Sound and Material. This course will form around a collaborative workshop that will aim to understand these concepts through practice-based approaches.
