International Relations

The department maintains numerous international contacts, in research as well as in teaching. For teaching, a double degree in "Audio Communication and Sonology" was established in 2014 as part of a cooperation agreement with the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague / Netherlands. An exchange agreements with the Georgia Institute of Technology enables students to spend up to one year in the USA. Several ERASMUS agreements connect with European partners. Less formalized are the connections with international partners, which often result from joint research projects. Most of them enable research visits, sometimes also the writing of the master thesis upon request.

Dual Degree "Audio Communication and Sonology"

In 2014, a new dual degree master program "Audio Communication and Sonology" was set up as a cooperation between the TU Berlin and the Royal Conservatoire The Hague. The study combines a scientific study in acoustics, audio engineering, signal processing and musicology at the Audio Communication Group at TU Berlin with a creative study in the field of electroacoustic music, computer music and sound art at the Institute of Sonology of the Royal Conservatoire.

Both institutions have a long tradition in the research and performance of different forms of sound art, which dates back to the 1950s. Since 2000, the international cooperation in this field is promoted by the international "Edgard Varèse Guest Professorship for Computer Music", sponsored by the DAAD at TU Berlin.

The course program provides for a one-year study in "Audio Communication and Technology" in Berlin, followed by a one-year study of "Sonology" in The Hague. Graduates receive a double degree (M.Sc./M.Mus.) of both institutions. Candidates regularly apply for the master program "Audio Communications and Technology" at the TU Berlin first; until 15 February of the following year they can apply for a change to The Hague. We offer a total of six places.

To the cooperation agreement

Georgia Tech Exchange Agreement

In August 2014, the TU Berlin has signed an exchange agreement with the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) on the basis of which students at a masters or postgraduate level can spend one or two semesters in Atlanta.

This particular agreement allows students of audio communication to participate in the Graduate Program for Music Technology as well as to choose an area of concentration and, as the case may be, to write a thesis in the field of Music Information Retrieval and Audio Signal Processing under Prof. Alexander Lerch's supervision.

ERASMUS

The Department of Audio Communications currently maintains ERASMUS partnerships with the following institutions:

Further cooperation agreements are in preparation.

For more information about the University of Technology's cooperations with European scientific institutions and its study abroad program please see http://www.tu-berlin.de/menue/internationales/ and http://www.auslandsamt.tu-berlin.de/.

If you consider spending a period of study in other European countries, please contact the Erasmus coordinator of the department, StR. i.H. Oliver Schwab-Felisch. Office hours: Friday 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., room H 3001.
